MOZ ART: An Artistic Tribute to MORRISSEY

If you're in the East L.A. area this weekend you should definitely stop by the MOZ ART show. My friend Mayra is displaying some of her paintings. It's an all ages event and there's a $5 cover. Fun for the whole family. I'm going with my brother and nieces.
An Artistic Tribute to STEVEN PATRICK MORRISSEY. This event seems to be like a mini Moz convention. There's going to be music, bands, vendors, beer, food, and more.

Struck By Lightning Premiere

Start off the New Year with a movie premiere! Chris Colfer's Struck by Lightning is having a red carpet premiere in Hollywood on 1/6/2013. Dress to impress!

Synopsis:
High school senior Carson Phillips (Chris Colfer) was destined for bigger things than his close-minded small town could ever offer. He was on a path to greatness, but destiny had a different plan when he was suddenly killed by a bolt of lightning in his school parking lot. Demonstrating that life is what happens while you're busy planning your future, Carson recounts the last few weeks of his life via witty, insightful flashbacks, including a blackmail scheme targeting the popular kids in school that he concocts with his best friend (Rebel Wilson), and a home life that includes a mother who's more interested in the bottle than her son's future and an estranged father who suddenly appears with a pregnant fiancee.

PettyFest West

The Petty Fest is a festival, of collaborating musicians/artists/performers, celebrating the music of Tom Petty. Made possible with a sponsorship by Jameson Whiskey (The Best Fest), all ticket proceeds go to the Sweet Relief  Musicians Fund. The NYC event made its way to Los Angeles for the first time; calling its west coast debut, "Petty Fest West." To support the recent devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Petty Fest West and Sweet Relief  had limited edition PettyFest event posters available for ever donation of $20 to the Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Unfortunately Tom Petty wasn't at the fest but a lot of amazing people were. The Cabin Down Below Band rocked the night away, with a 24 song set. Many guests joined the stage throughout the night. I think the MVP of the night goes to Johnny Depp; he played guitar on a few songs. I thought it was a major tribute to Tom Petty; JD played, "Eddie," in the Into The Great Wide Open music video.

The event was so much fun! It was a giant party, with unlimited Jameson; a big jam out session with amazing artists. Actors/Singers: Justin Bartha, Mae Whitman, Landon Pigg, Sarah Silverman, and Har Mar Superstar were some of the guests that sang on stage.

I knew most of the performing guests and for the ones I didn't know, they now have a new admirer. Most likely I'm missing some but these are the guests I gathered: Patrick Carney (The Black Keys), Albert, Nick & Fab (The Strokes), Jared Followill (Kings of Leon), Nicole Atkins, Rodrigo Amarante (Little Joy), Butch Walker, Cory Chisel, members of Eagles of Death Metal, Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses), Ryan Miller (Guster), Jesse Malin, Karen Elson, and some.

Many familiar faces scattered throughout the theater. I saw several actors and I smiled at them. I was buzzing it, thanks to Jameson, so I was just smiling at everybody.

There is a great review of Wednesday's show, that pretty much sums up the night I attended (minus kesha), on The Hollywood Reporter's website, which is where I got the set list from. I don't know if the set lists from both nights were identical but this seems about right, give or take a guest.

Show: Matthew Morrison @ The Grammy Museum 9/24/11

Spotlight: Matthew Morrison
Presented by American Express

Saturday, September 24, 2011; 7:30pm

The GRAMMY Museum is pleased to welcome Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominee Matthew Morrison to the Clive Davis Theater. A star of stage and screen, Morrison is most famous for his current role as Will Schuester on Fox's hit musical comedy series Glee. Morrison studied musical theater, vocal performance and dance at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. His big Broadway break came when he was cast as heartthrob Link Larkin in the hit Hairspray. Morrison was later nominated for a Tony Award for his role in The Light in the Piazza, and received a Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for 10 Million Miles. Morrison's self-titled debut album, released in May, has been cited as a mix of classic crooning and "eclectic pop." Featuring duets from artists such as Elton John, Sting and Gwyneth Paltrow, the lighthearted album is a true testament to Morrison's vocal talents. Hear Morrison in discussion about the debut album, his rise to stardom and current success. After an interview with GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares Vice President Scott Goldman, Morrison will take audience questions and perform a selection of songs.

Doors open at 7:00 pm. American Express presale tickets are $20 and can be purchased online by American Express Card members starting Wednesday, August 31, at noon. Public onsale is Friday, September 9, at noon. American Express is the exclusive payment method for presale tickets. All proceeds benefit the GRAMMY Museum.
