'Glee' Confirms Santana Is a Closeted Lesbian
"Glee" is not a pool for gay boys only, but also a gay girl who is not yet ready to come out of the closet. At the Paley Center for Media's Paleyfest, creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan have confirmed that sexy salsa Santana is a lesbian and she may take a new level of relationship with fellow former Cheerio, Brittany.
"Santana is now out, internally," Murphy told AfterEllen.com. "Whether she's dating somebody or not, we don't know. But we think we've made a big step in giving the world that character. Whether her and Brittany will work out we don't know." Falchuk who initiated the storyline added, "(Lesbian visibility) was our intention. We want to make sure everybody is included. Santana is a lesbian. She might not be ready to come out yet, but she is."
Falchuck was confident in going on with Santana-Brittany scenario since fans' response has been favorable. "I heard some stories of people coming out after that episode and it was very moving," he noted. Naya Rivera who plays Santana also feels the same love. She said, "I hear every day on Twitter things that warm my heart. There was one girl who said she'd contemplated suicide. Other people have said they'd had the courage to come out after the episode. I hope I handled it responsibly. I'm more than honored."
The other "Glee" cast were happy to jot in their opinions about Santana's sexuality. Chris Colfer who plays openly-gay Kurt said, "They're both very bitchy characters so I feel like they could bond. Maybe Kurt could teach her to be a little bit nicer, and a little bit more out." Meanwhile, Jane Lynch who plays the mean Sue thought, "I love that it looks like Santana is gay, it's lovely. It's nice to have a gay girl because we have such nice gay boys."
