Ryan Murphy on the Cory/Finn Memorial Glee Episode

EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Murphy, as part of an Emmy-timed interview this week, updates Deadline/Awardsline’s Christy Grosz about writing Glee‘s Cory Monteith memorial episode and going back to the set of the series without the actor:

It’s been a difficult circumstance because we basically went straight from the memorial into [reworking] the two Beatles episodes, which I think are fun and optimistic, that we had always had planned. The hard part for all of us is that the past week we’ve been holed up writing the memorial episode. There were a lot of things that we had to decide — how are we going to deal with his death? At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose—that was something we had considered. But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that. Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, “This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.” That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way. The cast and crew have had solace in being together. They’ve been holed up doing those Beatles numbers. There’s been tears on set. It’s been hard for a lot of people. But the really difficult thing is coming. We start shooting the memorial episode this week. We’re just now finishing it, and at the end of the week we’ll send it to [the studio 20th Century Fox Television] to get their approvals. But I think it turned out to be a lovely tribute, and it’s a very heartfelt look at how young people grieve. After that, we’re going to take two weeks or three weeks down to get our heads together because it’s been a really hard thing to write. We loved Cory and we loved Finn and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them around. We’re trying to craft an episode that’s not just about us grieving but about a lot of the young fans grieving.

Good Grief Charlie Brown

This Charming Charlie brings a new Smiths-infused sadness to the Peanuts universe

While some may associate Charlie Brown with holiday specials and lazy Sunday mornings, it's easy to forget that the beloved Peanuts character is a meek little boy with low self esteem. A modern characterization of the beloved comic strip star would totally be a fan of The Smiths. Enter This Charming Charlie, a glorious Tumblr that pairs Morrissey's lyrics with various Peanuts strips. It's akin to Garfield Minus Garfield and Nietzsche Family Circus, exposing the true bleakness that those seemingly sweet peanuts face every day.

Gleek Hugs for LEA!

We're still in denial about the passing of Cory Monteith. What made it real was seeing the Glee cast at the Teen Choice Awards without him. Glee took home a couple of awards and the cast mentioned Cory but we were surprised to see that Lea Michele was present to accept her's. It must have been very difficult but she roughed through it and gave an amazing speech. It was a beautiful dedication.
She is a very brave woman and is forever in our prayers.

Remembering Cory

Charismatic Cory

It's been a couple of weeks since the tragic news of Cory Monteith's death. It was a shock and I've been in denial ever since. Not only did I fall in love the character Finn Hudson but I was quite fond Cory as an individual. He was such an amazing person and the world has lost a great man but he will never be forgotten. I'm sending out a virtual hug to all  gleeks worldwide. I'm grateful that GLEE helped introduce Cory to the world.

I always thought Cory would be the perfect boyfriend, if I was into guys. Anyhow, I can still appreciate beauty and he was one tall glass of handsome. He was: good looking, in shape, tall, athletic, a talented singer, musician & actor; he had: great skin, cool hair, a lovely smile, healthy teeth, a nice personality, and a  great sense of humor. He was full of energy and although he was only my friend in the gleek world, I wish I could've been his friend in real life.
Cory was very likeable. How could you not love him? I've seen several interviews and he was always kind and joyful. Even his smile was contagious, I would always smile when he was on the TV. And how adorable was glee audition tape? Check him out on Ellen as he recreates his glee audition:

I went to both GleeLive concerts and I felt like a teenager, screaming at the top of my lungs. The glee cast brought it. Their performances were a blast! I'm fortunate to live in L.A. and I try my best to attend any glee related events. I especially love the Q&A's. I went to a couple of glee panels at the PaleyFest and it was always a pleasure to be in Cory's presence.

After the panels, he would stick around for autographs.

The most memorable event was the Biggest Show! I got to see him act out stories written by students. The Young Storytellers Foundation held an amazing show, with awesome stories and great actors, and raised a lot of money for their foundation. I'm glad I was able to volunteer that evening.

I was lucky enough to meet Cory. He was even more beautiful in person. I was a bit starstruck but I kept my cool. Glee was taping at the Eagle Rock Plaza and my niece and I went and stayed the whole day watching them film. Security/bodyguards were doing rounds to make sure that none of the fans bothered the actors. That intimidated me from approaching any of the actors. We happened to be standing near the escalator when their break was announced. My niece told Chord hello and he ignored her, then right away I saw security approaching us; she was scared to talk to anybody else but I stepped up and told Cory and Mark hello and they were both friendly. They let us take a photo even though security was telling us to back off.
That meeting was brief and I didn't want to bother too much because we was working. I saw him again when his band Bonnie Dune performed and that time I was able to speak to him. Again, he was so nice!

A story I love to share about Cory is the time he tweeted a picture of a gift I gave him. That just shows how cool of a person he was!
Everyday I'll think of Cory because I wake up to a poster of him on my wall. I will also take the time to say a little prayer for Cory, Lea, his family, friends, glee family, band, and gleeks.

Kimmel Vs. Morrissey

The Kimmel, Morrissey stand-off continues

The stand-off between Morrissey and Jimmy Kimmel is still on a roll, as both the late night host and the musician have gotten into a war of words over Morrissey's critical position on "Duck Dynasty."

If you'll recall, the former Smiths frontman pulled out of an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Tuesday because the cast members from "Duck Dynasty" were going to be on as guests.

"As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers," Morrissey said in a statement earlier this week. "If Jimmy cannot dump 'Duck Dynasty' then we must step away."

Kimmel ended up hosting "Duck Dynasty" as planned, joking on Tuesday's show that while he "respects [Morrissey's] stance, there's a very good reason why I didn't dump the 'Duck Dynasty' guys for Morrissey. And that's because they have guns."

The singer, Kimmel continued, "keeps finding new ways to depress us."

Morrissey didn't find that so funny, and on Wednesday gave a statement that counted the reasons why.

"I was disappointed with last night’s 'Jimmy Kimmel Show,' wherein our smiling host managed to ridicule depression (70 percent of Americans have experienced depression according to the National Institute of Mental Health)," Morrissey said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking of Kimmel, the singer went on to say that the host "found time to ridicule healthy eating (the obesity epidemic in the U.S. costs $147 billion per year in medical expenditure), and he also ridiculed the notion that animals should be entitled to the possession of their own lives. Furthermore, he found time to jokingly promote gun-ownership – hugely amusing for the parents at Sandy Hook, no doubt. ... None of the above issues are, of course, as important as Jimmy Kimmel himself, who has finally revealed his show to have an overwhelming loss of meaning."

Kimmel swiftly responded Wednesday afternoon on his Twitter account:

And later on that night, on his show.

"I'll be honest, it made me very angry," Kimmel said of Morrissey's statement. "I have a lot of respect for people who don't eat meat ... but the statement he made is ridiculous. I'd like to invite him to join me on the show to discuss it. I am an open, even-handed person, who considers and respects all points of view."

"I figure if I say it enough," Kimmel joked, "maybe it'll be true."

We'll see if Morrissey makes it back to Kimmel to hash out their differences. According to his Facebook page, the singer's back on his North American tour, which was scheduled to pick up in San Diego Wednesday night.

Taylor Swift's loved ones worry that she is falling apart, drinking and dieting excessively

Taylor Swift is starting “to crack,” according t Us Weekly. The magazine alleges the singer is beginning to fall apart in the wake of her split from Harry Styles, and after being “humiliated” by public jabs.

“The breakup killed her,” a so-called “insider” tell Us Weekly, which goes on to claim that losing to Adele at the Golden Globes, being the target of a Tina Fey quip, and having Michael J. Fox say he’d prefer she stay away from his son all worsened the situation for Swift. The tab’s source explains, “It wasn’t the week she could take a joke. She feels like a loser in love, and doesn’t have many friends anymore,” claims the insider for Us Weekly. Selena Gomez has been been helping Taylor cope recently but the source claims the friends are now growing apart

According to the magazine, “Swift is focusing on what she can ontrol: her looks. The singer has been carefully monitoring what she eats — while also drinking more than usual,” reports the Us Weekly source. The magazine goes so far as to quote its insider as saying “loved ones are worried she won’t make it through” her upcoming tour. Wow. As in wow, did Us Weekly go overboard here. While anyone would be upset after a breakup and less than thrilled to be joked about, the implication that Swift is beginning to “crack” and have a booze-fueled meltdown that’s threatening her tour schedule is totally untrue A source close to Swift assures Gossip Cop she’s “doing great” and eager for her tour to begin, calling the s Weekly eport “completely false.”

Michelle Obama's Inauguration Eye Roll Sparks National Debate

President Barack Obama's inauguration featured patriotism, hope, and shaaaaade!

First lady Michelle Obama was serving up the latter when she delivered this epic eye roll directed at Speaker of the House John Boehner (as originally pointed out on Tumblr), who tapped her on the back. Mr. Boehner, it's not that you're blocking her husband's agenda in Congress, but can't you see she's trying to eat?! You'd think the seating arrangements at this fancy lunch would give the first lady a moment of peace, but no.

That said, we always did prefer our politics with a side of reality. Z-snaps to the FLOTUS!
