Natalie Portman is no longer a Galliano fan.

Natalie Portman Condemns John Galliano

The actress Natalie Portman, who has an endorsement contract with Dior for its Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, has strongly condemned its chief designer, John Galliano, for anti-Semitic remarks after a video surfaced of Mr. Galliano appearing to deliver a tirade in a Paris bar. In a separate incident, he was accused of verbally abusing a French couple last week in the bar. He was suspended Friday from Dior.

In a statement released Monday evening in Los Angeles, Ms. Portman said:
“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”

It was not known how Ms. Portman’s contract with Dior might be affected.

Did you know that Oscar is a Latino?

While movie fans may think the coveted statuettes presented at the Academy Award ceremonies tonight are as American as apple pie, they're actually closer to carne asada.

It turns out that when MGM's art director Cedric Gibbons, an original Academy member, was selected to supervise the design of the trophy, he found himself in need of a model.

Gibbons was introduced by his then-wife Dolores del Rio to Mexican film director and actor Emilio "El Indio" Fernandez. Although initially reluctant, Fernndez was finally convinced to pose nude to create the statue. He thus became the first film buff.

This bit of trivia is by way of introducing the subject of the day: The Academy Awards, a subject about which I know not so much.

I know this, however. On Academy Awards day, the womenfolk of my family descend on my den like seagulls on a landfill to watch the entire broadcast, from the first anorexic actress slinking down the red carpet to the last endless thank-you speech. I stand dutifully by with wine (which I pour) and food (which I serve), silently efficient like a bit player in "The King's Speech."

I've always been a bit blas about the Oscars. Maybe it's because I was born in Hollywood and have spent most of my life nearby. Familiarity breeds indifference over time. Let's face it, not everyone in Pasadena goes ga-ga over the Rose Parade every year.

Or maybe it's because I've met many people who possess Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, Tonys and the like. Some are larger than life. But most are talented people who simply work hard and do their jobs well. The difference between us and them is that while we may get a raise, they are rewarded with thunderous applause dressed in tuxedos and gowns on worldwide television.

Then there's the overkill factor. By the time we are subjected to the Golden Globes, the Peoples' Choice Awards, the MTV Awards, the Critics' Choice Awards, the Writers' Guild Awards, the Directors' Guild Awards and the Screen Actors' Guild Awards, among others, the results become predictable. The Academy Awards becomes a spectacle, not a drama.

What I really dislike about awards shows, and the Academy Awards in particular, are the acceptance speeches. Sure, there have been some genuine moments over the years. But put an actor on live TV without a script and chaos lurks. They often end up embarrassing themselves, the Academy and on occasion the human race.

Let's dump the thank-yous entirely. That means we would miss a lot of tearful tributes to parents and spouses and children and agents along with the occasional political rant, which mostly serves to alienate rather than educate.

The only acceptance speech I ever enjoyed came from Roberto Benigni (Best Actor for "Life is Beautiful" in 1999) who said, "I feel like now really to dive in this ocean of generosity. This is too much . . . I would like to be Jupiter and kidnap everybody and lie down in the firmament making love to everybody."

Unfortunately, most fail to rise to this standard.

While we're at it, let's quit fooling around with the Ellen DeGenereses and Hugh Jackmans and return Billy Crystal to his rightful position as permanent host. He's done it eight times and each one was a gem.

And let's dump the Best Song category, which officially died in 2005 when a happy little ditty called "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" won the Oscar. Can you name the last three award winners? Neither can I.

Jettison a few categories like the best foreign documentary under 30 minutes that no one will ever see and we're getting somewhere.

The whole show could be wrapped up in two hours or less.

And I'd get my den back.

A Week of Rants: Top 10 Charlie Sheen Quotes

It’s the day after the almighty Oscars Awards and everyone is talking about … Charlie Sheen?!? As the highest-paid actor on TV in history, he’s ignited a feud with the creator of his show by launching into a series of verbal tirades as production was shut down on Two and a Half Men.

While many are debating his sobriety — and sanity — according to Charlie, he’s made of win! In the wake of his show being pulled, he’s done a string of radio, TV and internet interviews that have gotten progressively more heated, even manic, resulting in some uproarious quotes from a man on a quite a roll.

Here are just some of the gems he’s released over the past week:

1. “I got magic and I’ve got poetry in my fingertips, you know, most of the time, and this includes naps. I’m an F-18, bro.”
2. “Clearly I have defeated this earthworm [show creator Chuck Lorrie] with my words – imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists.”
3. “I’m tired–I’m so tired of pretending like my life isn’t perfect and bitching and winning every second and I’m not perfect and bitchin’ and just delivering the goods at every freakin’ turn.”
4. “You have the right to kill me, but you do not have the right to judge me. Boom. That’s the whole movie. That’s life.”
5. “Winning!”
6. “I think people mistake my passion for anger.”
7. “Rock bottom; that’s a fishing term.”
8. “I am battle-tested bayonets, bro.”
9. “I am on a drug, it’s called Charlie Sheen.”
10. “If you’re a part of my family, I will love you violently.”

TMZ reports that as a result of their interview with Charlie just this morning, his long-time publicist quit. He will also appear on tonight’s ABC News, which is likely to result in many more memorable quotes.

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video Premieres

The seven-minute clip shows a Gaga ready to create new worlds to dominate.

She's already accomplished pretty much everything on this astral plane — you know, emerging from swimming pools while flanked by Great Danes, murdering her boyfriend, escaping from prison, offending the Catholic church. So, in her new video for "Born This Way," it sort of makes sense that Lady Gaga has taken her talents to an entirely new dimension: a "multiverse" of starry space births and snarling specters, new life forms and centuries-old demons. And sparkly unicorns. You can't forget about them.

So, yes, "Born This Way" (which premiered on Monday, February 28) is quite the spectacle. Part space odyssey, part Creationist yarn, it involves the formation of not just an entirely new universe, but an entirely new race of humanity, too. It sort of makes sense, it sort of doesn't, but that 100 percent doesn't really matter much. This is Gaga at her most fabulous, her most out-there, her most, well, Gaga.

Beginning with a long voiceover (the "Manifesto of Mother Monster," as Gaga puts it) that drops phrases like "the mitosis of the future" and "the eternal mother hovered in the multiverse" like they're practically weightless, "Born This Way" stretches a tale of astral rebirth — which appears to be a central theme of the Born This Way album — over seven minutes, recalling everything from the early "Superman" films to the late Alexander McQueen's final collection, doing so effortlessly and oh-so-seriously, in the way we've come to expect from Gaga.

There is haute couture and barely there underwear, a guest appearance by the so-called "Zombie Boy" who showed up in an earlier clip, a whole lot of oozing afterbirth, some fierce dance moves and even a bit of gunplay. The basic premise seems to be good vs. evil, but again, that's entirely up to your interpretation. Director Nick Knight fills each frame with shades of dark and light, coloring the voids of this new world with his fashion-photographer's eye. Gaga plays it straight, even when she's delivering a whitechocolatespaceegg (shout out to Liz Phair!) while hovering above planet Earth.

It's part fantasy, part hopeful reality. It's about the future and the past (especially at clip's end, when Gaga sports Madonna's near-trademarked tooth gap), but really, all of that pales in comparison to the sheer spectacle of the thing. And that sort of makes sense, because after thoroughly dominating this world, with "Born This Way," Lady Gaga seems content to create brand-new worlds to tower over. Welcome your new overlord.

What do you think the "Born This Way" video means? Share your interpretations in the comments!

John Galliano caught on video: "I love Hitler"

There's no disputing this.

From The Sun
:
The British designer - an alleged Jew hater - then tells a horrified woman: "People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed."

His tirade was videoed by a friend of the people he was insulting - who were French and Italian, but not Jewish.

Galliano, 50, was at the same Paris bar where he allegedly launched a vicious verbal attack on two people last week - which led to him being arrested and suspended by fashion label Christian Dior.

After stating he loves Hitler and making the gassing remark, a woman is heard to say, 'Oh my God' before asking slurring Galliano if he had a problem.

He said: "With you. You're ugly." Asked where he was from, he said: "Your a***hole."

The man who filmed his outburst told The Sun: "Galliano was sitting alone nursing his drink, when a few of us sat at the next table.

"Galliano kept intruding, throwing in comments about us and what we were saying. We knew who he was. He's instantly recognisable.

"We were stunned by what Galliano was saying, but then he started making vile anti-Semitic comments. His words were disgusting. He made it clear the Italian girls weren't welcome and should go home. This was pure racism."

Last Thursday Galliano allegedly insulted Geraldine Bloch, 35, and threatened to kill her pal Philippe Virgitti, 41, in La Perle Bar. Ms Bloch told cops he called her a "dirty Jew face".

Galliano has launched legal action against French Ms Bloch and Mr Virgitti, who is of Asian origin, for defamation.

Children Who Won Oscars!

Anna Paquin
Anna Paquin
When it comes to mature actors we can expect them to get a nomination for their roles. But when it comes to children, they are less expected to be nominated or to win an Oscar because they are not experimented enough. Despite that, a few child-actors have won Oscars:

  • Shirley Temple in 1934, she was 6-year-old (she received a non-competitive, honorary Oscar as well as Deanne Durbin and Mickey Rooney in 1938, Judy Garland in 1939 and Margaret O’Brien in 1944, along with 7 others in the following 16 years)

  • Patty Duke, for ‘The Miracle Worker’, in 1962, she was 16-year-old.

  • Anna Paquin, for ‘The Piano’, in 1994, she was 11-year-old.

It’s probably overweliming to be nominated to the Oscars as a child. To be where the grwon-ups are and to compete with them is a huge challange. Here there are a few children who were nominated, but didn’t win an Oscar:
  • Patty McCormack, for ‘The Bad Seed’ in 1956;
  • Mary Badham, for ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ in 1962;
  • Jodie Foster, for  ‘Taxi Driver’ in 1976;
  • Quinn Cummings, for ‘Goodbye Girl’ in 1977;
  • River Phoenix,  for ‘Running on Empty’ in 1988;
  • Haley Joel Osment, for ’The Sixth Sense’ in 1999;
  • Keisha Castle-Hughes, for ‘Whale Rider’ in 2004;
  • Abigail Breslin, for ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ in 2007.
Let’s just hope that on Sunday, Hailee Steinfeld, at 14-year-old, will win an Oscar for her performance in ‘True Grit’.

Old Navy Ad Star: Kim Kardashian Comparisons Are "Extremely Flattering"

Melissa Molinaro doesn't see it.
"To me it's extremely flattering. She is a beautiful woman...That's an amazing compliment," says the singer and actress in response to the oodles of Kim Kardashian comparisons that have blown up the Internet since Molinaro's peppy Old Navy ad—in which she certainly does resemble the E! star—premiered this week.
But, Molinaro assured us in an exclusive sit-down, she did not answer a casting call for "Kim Kardashian look-alikes."
RELATED: What's up with Old Navy's Kim Fauxdashian?
"I have the email that my agent sent me—this is from the client, from Old Navy," Molinaro told E! News, proceeding to read a copy of the casting notice.
"'Role Name: Female Singer,'" she began. "Then it says, 'Description: Looking for a true dance pop superstar. The talent will lip-synch, so just looking for a performer. The performer has experimental vocal style that borrows from such legends as Prince, David Bowie and Madonna. Wardrobe: Think Prince, Madonna, Lady Gaga and David Bowie.'"
But after the ad premiered, it doesn't appear that any of those stars came to mind.
"It went from me getting phone calls from my family and people I went to high school with, people I grew up dancing with," Molinaro said. "They're saying, 'Oh my god, [people are] saying you look like Kim Kardashian!'"
And yet, she's gotten very few comparisons to Kim until now.
"I get told that I look like a lot of famous people," the Ontario, Canada-born performer said. "It seems to be a trend for me. Eva Longoria, Nicole Scherzinger, Fergie, Vanessa Marcil—these are just a couple of the people [she's been compared to].
"It's just crazy to me because I think I look like Melissa Molinaro," she said. "I've been in the business for a long time and...thank God I booked this commercial because I've gotten so much airtime."
So does she think she has a future in the Kim-impersonation business?
"You're not going to find me at a Bar Mitzvah or a communion or someone's birthday doing that," Molinaro said.
It doesn't appear as if she needs the work, anyway. A veteran of shows like Making the Band 3 and The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll, Molinaro is up next in Honey 2, a straight-to-DVD sequel to the Jessica Alba-starring original.
And Molinaro has a message for her doppelgänger:
"Kim, I think you're beautiful woman, an amazing business woman, and it would be nice to meet you someday! I hope you don't think all this is weird."

VIDEO: Bill O'Reilly Hints He May Appear on 'Glee'

On 'The O'Reilly Factor' (weekdays, 8 PM ET on Fox News), Bill O'Reilly was critiquing a clip of Willie Geist, Ann Curry and Jenna Bush Hager dancing on 'Today' when he made a surprising revelation.

"I was on the set of 'Glee' last night," O'Reilly disclosed. "And after seeing those professionals, and that ... pretty frightening. And I want to thank all of the 'Glee' people for being so nice to us."

O'Reilly has taken shots at 'Glee' in the past, once accusing the show of indoctrinating the nation's youth with liberal values. And 'Glee' responded with an episode featuring a newsman character who seemed to be parodying O'Reilly.

That all appears to be water under the bridge. There are Twitter reports of O'Reilly being greeted warmly on the 'Glee' set, and the rumor is he will be playing one of the judges at the Regionals.

Will his be a singing judge? We can only hope.

Dior suspends Galliano after booze-fuelled bar spat

PARIS (Reuters) – Christian Dior suspended its star fashion designer John Galliano on Friday pending an inquiry into accusations he hurled racist remarks at a couple in a Paris bar.

About a week before Galliano was due to present Dior's collection in Paris, police were called to a bar in the city's trendy Marais district on Thursday evening where they found the designer doling out a drunken torrent of abuse to a couple, a police source told Reuters.

Galliano's lawyer Stephane Zerbib said two complaints had been filed with police against his client for making racist or anti-Semitic comments -- a crime in France -- but he said Galliano "firmly and formally" denied doing so.

"Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance toward any anti-Semitic or racist words or behavior," Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano said.

"Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities," the fashion house, part of billionaire Bernard Arnault's LVMH luxury empire, added in a statement.

The British designer was out at a no-frills drinking spot popular with wannabe models when the incident took place.

He was taken to a police station for a sobriety test, which confirmed he had been drinking, but was released without being charged and police escorted him home, the police source said.

She drinks, she gets high, and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When she’s dumped by her fiancé, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute (Justin Timberlake) – competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). When Elizabeth also finds herself fighting off the advances of a sarcastic, irreverent gym teacher (Jason Segel), the consequences of her wild and outrageous schemes give her students, her coworkers, and even herself an education like no other.

True Blood Exclusive: Look Who's Returning!

You already know that True Blood‘s upcoming fourth season will feature witches, werewolves and more Nan Flannigan. But here’s what I’m fairly certain you don’t know: It’ll also mark the return of vampire legend Godric!

TVLine has exclusively learned that Allan Hyde will reprise his role as Eric’s late, forever young-looking maker when the HBO drama resumes this summer.

The duration and exact timing of his stint are unknown. It’s also unclear what form the onetime vampire sheriff of Area 9 will take given that he succumbed to the worst sunburn in history during season 2. (He returned briefly from the great beyond in the season 3 finale to deliver a message to Eric.)

Blood EP Alan Ball isn’t offering too many clues, except to say that fans will see “a different side of Godric.”

Driving Miss Stackhouse #trueblood

According to our transportation department, we have three of Sookie's yellow Hondas. One, the "hero", is used when she's actually driving, another is used on a "process trailer", when the car is towed behind a truck for dialogue and driving shots, and the third is used for stunts.

Exclusive: ‘Carancho’ Clip

If your interest was piqued when we talked about Carancho last fall during Fantastic Fest, or if you’re just a Ricado Darin fan from his turn in The Secret in Their Eyes, you’ll definitely want to check out this exclusive clip we got our hands on by following it around town until it got hit by a car.

The movie is the story of an immoral lawyer who earns his bread by chasing down accident victims and somehow being at a few before they even happen. He meets a junkie nurse, the two start sharing a few wistful glances from across the stretcher, and a strange love blooms amongst the twisted metal. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that want our anti-hero lawyer dead.

The scene here is a two-minute-long tracking shot that shows off just a fraction of the subtle artistry in the camera work, and a snapshot of the developing romance. Check it out for yourself:

GLEE! LIVE! IN CONCERT!

On the heels of blockbuster ratings for the post-Super Bowl episode Sunday night, Twentieth Century Fox Television and “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy are pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed “Glee Live! In Concert!,” starring 13 members of the television show’s cast, will return to North American concert stages this spring.

Beginning Friday, May 21 at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, “Glee” stars Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine) will perform in an all-new singing and dancing celebration of the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning show.

The North American engagement of “Glee Live! In Concert!,” is a unique concert experience once again conceived by Murphy that will include live performances of some of the show’s most memorable musical numbers from Seasons One and Two, including “Empire State of Mind,” “Toxic,” “My Life Would Suck Without You,” “It’s My Life,” and of course, the show’s anthem, “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Described by the Los Angeles Times as “triumphant,” USA Today called last year’s concerts “equal parts musical theater, giddy pop culture phenomenon and Journey-loving rock show.”

“The cast and I were so moved by the love and enthusiasm of our fans at last year’s concerts that we knew we had to do it again,” said Murphy. “There is something magical about thousands of ‘Gleeks’ coming together to share a special night with our cast, and this tour is one way we can thank them for their unbelievable support from the beginning.”

“Joining the cast this year has been like hopping on a fast-moving train,” commented Overstreet. “I have already had so many incredible experiences, but the chance to perform live on stages across the U.S., Canada and Europe takes the cake. This is too cool.”

“Joining the cast of ‘Glee’ has been an amazing, rewarding and humbling experience all at once,” added Criss. “On top of all of that, I’m fortunate to play such a strong and interesting character like Blaine that speaks volumes to fans. Now I have the chance to perform for thousands of them this summer, and I couldn’t be more excited!”

In its sophomore season, “Glee” is a biting musical comedy that has quickly become a pop-culture phenomenon. This season’s No. 1 entertainment series among Teens and a Top 3 series among Adults 18-49 and 18-34 boasts critical acclaim, a loyal fan base of “Gleeks,” two Platinum and two Gold albums, two Grammy Award nominations, more than 16 million song downloads, the record for the most titles on the Billboard Hot 100 by a non-solo act (beating out The Beatles), the No. 1 soundtrack of 2010 (“The Christmas Album”), an incredible 19 Emmy and 11 Golden Globe nominations – earning it the distinction of being the most-nominated series of the year – and four Emmy Awards. To top it off, the genre-defying, award-winning series has been picked up through its third season.

“Glee” is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series.
